Blockchain framework
A model to assess the Blockchain
for Business use case
As the use of blockchain adoption, within mainstream business use cases,
increases, there is a need for a framework to assist the decision makers to
select the use of blockchain to solve the real business problems. In this sec-
tion, we will define a framework with business problems in mind.
BUSINESS PROBLEMS
The first rule of the blockchain journey within our organisation is to find
a real business problem statement or pain points impacting the customers.
Every CEO and senior management of the company needs to assess the
end-to-end business journeys and look out for quantitative and qualitative
benefits that can improve customer experience and business models.
The following are some of the current business problems faced by busi-
nesses globally.
• Pandemic concerns: Who could have imagined a global pandemic like
coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19), which has shattered all busi-
nesses? Most of the businesses either have closed or have to ask for
Government help to survive. Apart from all negative impacts, there
have been some good lessons and changes in way of working globally
for all businesses. Some of the lessons learnt will be highlighted in
this section; however, the following are the key concerns face by busi-
nesses due to the unexpected pandemic:

⚬Impact on Brick-and-Mortar businesses: Businesses that were
relying on physical shopping experience suffered a lot. Businesses
with online only or hybrid (physical and online) presence flour-
ished during the pandemic.

⚬Supply chain: Supply chain reliance on one country or supplier
had a significant impact. This will also be discussed in resiliency
and concentration risks sections.

⚬Way of working: The pandemic has taught us to trust the employees
to deliver. The companies who have assisted employees from work-
ing from home or any remote location have reduced the impact of
the pandemic on the business. Obviously, there are some businesses
